What is the Registry?
The Windows Registry is one of the most essential and critical and
centralized database system in almost all modern Windows operating systems. The
Windows Registry is a centralized database used to save settings and options
for Microsoft Windows including Windows 95, 98, ME and NT/2000. It contains
information and settings for all the attached hardware, installed software, created
users, and preferences of your system. If any of the components such as Control
Panel settings, or File Associations, System Policies, or installed software,
the changes are reflected and stored in the Registry. Sometime when these
entries get altered incorrectly they create the registry problems and subsequently it hit the overall system’s
speed and performance.
Now it is important to know how
we can avoid these unwanted entries from affecting the whole system and how we
can remove these registry problems from your system. For that we must need to
get into the registry settings.
The physical presence of the Windows registry file depends on your
version of Windows; the various OS of Windows saves this file as follows under
Windows 95 & 98 it is contained in two hidden files in your Windows
directory, called USER.DAT and SYSTEM.DAT, for Windows Me there is an
additional CLASSES.DAT file. The file is not directly accessible for a user for
any editorial purpose and you must need to use another windows utility which is
registry editor. If any incorrect change takes place in the registry it creates
many registry problems and
subsequently many system errors.
Now this is important to know how
to avoid and fix registry problems. Most of the time you
cannot avoid the problems or issues that your registry receives from various
resources. When you install a program it gets register in the windows registry
and sometime when the installation does not happen smoothly it leaves some
unwanted stuff in the registry that may create new registry problems.
Similarly while removing any
program from the computer some of the remnants or leftovers remain in the registry
and these entries accumulate during course of time and finally create a huge
database of unwanted and corrupt items. These corrupt entries create many registry problems and system related
issues. Thus they all should be removed periodically and here a reliable and
effective registry cleaner program
can help us to remove these unwanted and bad stuff from the Windows registry.
Another cause of corrupt registry
and various registry problems is the
computer virus, spyware, malware and various other infections. A virus is
designed in such a way that it firstly attack to the registry and make it
corrupt. A virus is also capable to disable the windows registry editor so that you cannot remove the infectious
entry from your system. So beware of this phenomenon.
