How to fix computer freezing problem in Windows

While using a computer system for many years a user may experience the well known computer freezing issue several times. This is one of the very common computer related problems. There is not just a single reason which causes computer freezing problem rather many factors are responsible for this problem.

We will talk about how we can avoid this event and what are the options in case that our computer becomes unresponsive or why it freezes. A computer can freeze because of an incompatible hardware, due to dust stored in your computer; it can also be possible if any software is not compatible with your system.

Following below are the main troubleshooting steps that can be followed if a computer freezes.

  1. Open Windows Task Manager by pressing ALT+CTRL and Delete Keys at the same time. The computer will tell you which software is responding and which is not responding or freezes up continually. End the task on the software or applications that not responding.
  2. Shutdown your PC- If the above mentioned task does not work for you, then simply press Control-Alt-Delete again and select shut down option. Or press and hold the button on the front of the computer to fix the freeze.
  3. Take out the power cord- If you are still facing the computer lockup issue, pull the power cord out and leave it sit for ten minutes in the event it still freezes. This action resets and fixes itself the computer when it freezes.
  4. Close all the applications- Close all the applications you are running in the system and, run only what you need to. If too many programs are running they all consume the entire random access memory and there leaves no space for any other process at all.
  5. Overheating- Overheating can also cause computer freezing issue very often. A good cooling system can help you to get rid of all hot air. You may use a blow-off duster by the fan area to fix this when the computer is off. If this does not fix it, take it in for professional examination, as your power supply, motherboard or other hardware may need to be repaired.
  6. Change your browser – Many times a computer may freeze while you are opening a certain webpage. If the computer only freezes on a certain website, try not to visit that website or use a different browser. Otherwise, try to use another web browser that is has more speed and quality. Google’s chrome is one of the best browsers nowadays which is very less prone towards freezing.
  7. Uninstall newly installed software- Many times incompatible software can also cause a freezing or lockup issue. If you have installed a program recently and consequently your computer freezes up, uninstall the program from the system and see the difference.
  8. Run an updated antivirus and anti spyware program- . Viruses and spyware can cause an abundance of computer freezes. Run a spyware and antivirus check to fix this, and make sure all the security software are properly installed and updated on the computer at all times.
